COUPLES FOR CHRIST: FOUNDATION FOR FAMILY AND LIFE CFC-FFL
Couples for Christ started in 1981 with 16 couples. Four very significant events happened in that year. In February, Pope John Paul II visited the Philippines for the first time and spoke about the essential role of the Philippines in the work of the church of Asia. On June 24, Our Lady appeared in Medjugorje, Yugoslavia to warn of dire consequences for sin and plead for repentance and renewal. On the third day on June 26, 16 couples who had finished the Life in the Spirit Seminar under the sponsorship of the Ang Ligay ng Panginoon (LNP) were formed into the group called Couples for Christ. And on November 22, Pope John Paul II released the encyclical Familiaris Consortio, indicating the essential role of the family in the reuniting of God’s children all over the world under the kingship of Christ.
For those who believe that God has a plan for the life of the world, these four distinct and seemingly unrelated events would indeed be essential links in a God- orchestrated plan to bring about the renewal of the world. God sent our Lady or his prophet to call for repentance. God found the community that would be his instrument. God stressed the importance of the family in his work, and God sent his servant to the country that he would use to be his light to the world. |
